freep.com on March 08, 2011 reported that Gwendolyn Washington, a doctor and one of three remaining defendants in a public corruption scandal involving the Detroit Public Schools, pleaded guilty Monday to her role in a scheme that looted more than $3 million from the cash-strapped district. Of the nine defendants indicted in the scheme last fall, six have pleaded guilty, one died and two remain: Washington’s sister, prominent gallery owner Sherry Washington, and Stephen Hill, a former DPS executive charged with accepting kickbacks from local vendors in the form of cash, a new Mustang GT convertible and a new Dodge Durango.
