desmoinesregister.com on October 10, 2011 reported that a Council Bluffs surgeon tried to operate on the wrong body part of a patient because the doctor had looked at X-rays of a different patient, state regulators say. Dr. Clifford Boese, 51, agreed to pay a $5,000 fine to settle the allegation. In documents released last week, the Iowa Board of Medicine said he “reviewed the X-rays of another patient and attempted to perform surgery to repair a fractured hip when, in fact, the patient had a fractured pelvis.” The incident happened last year. Besides paying the fine, Boese agreed to submit a written plan of how he would avoid such mistakes in the future. The board, which licenses physicians, also took action in several other cases: Dr. Kimberly Neuharth, 46, of Panora has agreed to limit her practice, undergo retraining and have her work supervised by another physician.
