whec.com on October 13, 2011 reported that a southern Nevada pediatrician has pleaded not guilty in Las Vegas to federal charges that he and a man falsely identifying himself as a doctor conspired to implant chronically ill patients with stem cells harvested from human placentas. Dr. Ralph Conti, of Henderson, is accused of performing more than 30 procedures on patients in 2006 at the direction of Alfred Sapse. Prosecutors say the 85-year-old Sapse had a company called StemCell Pharma Inc. and claimed to be a retired physician who studied in Ukraine. But he had no medical license in Nevada or any state.
