USA: Doctor in trouble over attempted health care fraud
thedailyreporter.com on November 08, 2011 reported that Dr. Jeffrey Russell will serve 18 months probation plus pay $2,500 in court cost and fines, after he entered a no contest plea to attempted health care fraud last month to avoid trial. Dr Russell, the 47-year-old Coldwater internist, had nothing to say as he stood before Branch County Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady for sentencing Monday. The judge suspended the 30 days in jail called for in the Michigan Sentencing Guidelines but imposed 250 hours of community service. He must pay restitution to Blue Cross of $694. Defense attorney Patrick O’Connell said Russell hopes to volunteer as a doctor at the Branch County Jail.
