indianexpress.com on November 23, 2011 reported that Principal district and sessions judge Anant Badar has rejected Dr Makarand Ranade’s plea to transfer the private complaint, filed against him for alleged sex determination, from magistrate court number 4 to any other court. Ranade, though his lawyer Nandu Phadke, stated two instances that, according to him, showed that the magistrate was biased and prejudiced. He said the judicial magistrate had, on finding prima facie case, directed issuance of process (summons) against Dr Ranade and co-accused Dr Nina Mathrani. The applicant appeared before the court and filed for bail, but the magistrate rejected the bail application on the same day and the two were taken to jail.
