India: Top doctors suspended for giving shelter to murder suspect in hospital
khaleejtimes.com on November 28, 2011 reported that three senior doctors from the prestigious city-based Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), medical superintendent Dr Nimma Satyanarayana, deputy medical superintendent Dr Sarat Prasad and cardiologist Dr Sarat Chandra have been suspended for allegedly allowing a double-murder accused person to stay in the hospital for a prolonged period on grounds that he needed treatment. Jairam Reddy, brother of Congress legislator Adinarayana Reddy, along with the others was arrested and remanded to judicial custody in Kadapa Central Jail. However, he allegedly feigned illness and managed to shift himself to NIMS in connivance with the jail authorities, and managed to stay in the hospital for 43 days, from September 21, 2010, to November 2, when he was actually fit for discharge.
