Canada: Hospital sued for negligence
telegraphjournal.canadaeast.com on January 03, 2012 reported that a Saint John woman is suing the Saint John Regional Hospital, the Horizon Health Network and an unnamed nurse for allegedly failing to provide adequate care when the woman was hospitalized on Dec. 31, 2010. In Wendy Gail Gavin's statement of claim, filed on Dec. 23, 2011, she alleges that, while she was hospitalized for a seizure on New Year's Eve 2010, a nurse at the Regional did not properly administer drugs, use appropriate dosages of medication, or check on the condition of the infusion site often enough. In the emergency room, Gavin claims that her heart and breathing stopped and a prolonged code blue was initiated by hospital staff.
