vancouversun.com on January 12, 2012 reported that a prominent financial planner is seeking $900,000 from her Ottawa family doctor in a malpractice suit that claims her repeated requests for a mammogram were dismissed as "unnecessary" years before she learned she had advanced breast cancer. In a statement of claim filed in Ontario Superior Court, Karen Holmes, 55, says Dr. Ferrukh Faruqui failed her for five years ending in 2010. None of the allegations in the statement of claim have been proven in court. Holmes learned in 2010 that she had large tumours in her breasts, one measuring 5 1/2 centimetres.
