azatutyun.am on January 18, 2012 reported that a wrongful death suit was filed Friday in Polk County Circuit Court against Bolivar physician Monte R. Kahler, Citizens Memorial Hospital District, Stephens Pharmacy and Springfield Medical Clinic. The petition was filed by Ryan Edens of Buffalo and Nathan Giarratano, state of Colorado, sons of Carla Edens, who died May 2, 2009. According to the court file, Carla Edens went to Kahler for medical treatment in April 2009 after she had been discharged from a methadone treatment program at Springfield Medical Clinic. The suit alleges negligence on the part of Kahler for failing to determine a complete treatment history before treating Edens and for prescribing a full month’s supply of methadone, knowing that Edens was addicted.
