khou.com on January 23, 2012 reported that Dr. Bernard Albina, a well-known orthopedic surgeon in Houston who was arrested and accused of child abuse more than two years ago, was taken into custody at his Piney Point-area home Monday morning on federal charges of possessing and producing child pornography, law enforcement sources confirmed. These charges are separate from the list of state sex charges involving young male patients that were filed in 2009. Albina, 77, was released on $100,000 bond after that arrest, and has remained out of custody until Monday. Families of some of Albina’s alleged victims in the state cases have said they’re fed up with the justice system. They believe it’s taken far too long to try the doctor.
