starnewsonline.com on January 30, 2012 reported that a former Wilmington physician accused of operating a prescription-for-cash practice out of his Shipyard Boulevard office will go to trial in April. Guy David Dyer, 67, was arrested in May 2010 after an investigation by the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office, dubbed "Operation Dyer Consequences," allegedly revealed Dyer operated a cash-only practice and was prescribing narcotic pain medication without establishing a medical purpose. Throughout the investigation, according to the sheriff's office, Dyer would see on average 30 to 50 patients per eight-hour day; each paying a $100 office visit and were never requested to provide photo identification.
