Guy David Dyer, 67, was arrested in May 2010 after an investigation by the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office, dubbed "Operation Dyer Consequences," allegedly revealed Dyer operated a cash-only practice and was prescribing narcotic pain medication without establishing a medical purpose. Throughout the investigation, according to the sheriff's office, Dyer would see on average 30 to 50 patients per eight-hour day; each paying a $100 office visit and were never requested to provide photo identification.
