news-journalonline.com on February 13, 2012 reported that a local nurse faces neglect, abuse and fraud charges after authorities say she gave an anti-psychotic drug to a disabled patient instead of his prescribed pain medication. Kathleen Pimental, 55, of New Smyrna Beach is accused of withholding the painkiller oxycodone from a patient at the Manor on the Green nursing home in Daytona Beach, according to an arrest warrant issued after an investigation by the Florida Attorney General's Medicare Control Fraud Unit. A lab analysis determined that one of the pills the patient said was given to him by Pimental was the anti-psychotic drug Risperdal, according to a probable cause affidavit. The patient told investigators he suffered stomach pain and developed a large blister on his scalp when given the medication, according to the affidavit.
