Canada: Doctor suspended for professional misconduct
edmontonjournal.com on February 14, 2012 reported that a Sherwood Park doctor has been suspended for 30 days after the Alberta Court of Appeal upheld a conviction on 31 counts of professional misconduct. Dr. Vincenzo Visconti was found guilty by the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons in June 2011, but appealed the decision. The charges against Visconti stemmed from his treatment of nine patients with asthma or other respiratory problems between 2002 and 2005. Visconti was found to have submitted bills to the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan for tests and procedures not recorded in patients’ charts; failing to refer patients to a respirologist for X-rays; and failing to consider alternative treatments that may have improved his patients’ health.
