United Kingdom: Fake doctor found guilty of harassing ex-girlfriend
midsussextimes.co.uk on February 16, 2012 reported that a man caught pretending to be a doctor at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath has been found guilty of a series of offences after launching a prolonged and extreme campaign of harassment against his ex-girlfriend and her family. A jury heard overwhelming and conclusive evidence during the four-and-a-half week trial at Lewes Crown Court of Al Amin Dhalla, 42, a Canadian national, and found him unanimously guilty of harassing Dr Alison Hewitt and her mother Pamela Hewitt; setting fire to Pamela’s home; attempting to set fire to a police station; theft; and criminal damage and perverting the course of justice. The severity of Dhalla’s intentions were such that an operation spanning five police forces was launched to safe-guard the victims, jointly led by Sussex and Thames Valley and involving Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall, and the Metropolitan police force, culminating in the family being airlifted to safety and Dhalla being intercepted by firearms officers.
