USA: Doctor pleads guilty to commit mail and wire fraud
orlandosentinel.com on February 22, 2012 reported that a 68-year-old doctor from Hollywood pleaded guilty in Cincinnati to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud in connection with a drug diversion scheme in which he was involved, according to the Justice Department. Dr. Michael Schoenwald purchased the prescription drug Lupron, used to treat prostate cancer, at discount rates offered to doctors. It is illegal to re-sell prescription drugs but Schoenwald sold the Lupron to Gregory Pfizenmayer, who sold the drugs to legitimate wholesalers in Ohio and elsewhere, according to court records. Pfizenmayer also falsified documents that stated the source of the drugs. A co-conspirator arranged the transactions between Schoenwald and Pfizenmayer.
