channelnewsasia.com on May 17, 2012 reported that a doctor has been censured and fined for professional misconduct. A Disciplinary Committee Inquiry found Dr Chai Chwan, 47, guilty of 31 charges of misconduct. The Singapore Medical Council said on Thursday that the Inquiry proceedings arose out of two complaints by the Ministry of Health. One was on August 10, 2007 about Dr Chai's practice at Little Cross Family Clinic in Tampines. The other was on April 30, 2008 about his practice at My Little Family Clinic in Jalan Bukit Merah. The SMC said Dr Chai faced a total of 71 charges. The first group of charges related to the way he managed patients who had been prescribed Subutex. He faced a total of 49 charges - 27 were for patients seen at Little Cross Family Clinic and 22 for patients seen at My Little Family Clinic. Another set of charges revolved around financial schemes.
Share|

timesofindia.com on May 16, 2012 reported that the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has upheld a state commission order that found an ayurvedic doctor guilty of negligence after the allopathic medicine he administered to a man in 2004 led to his death. The commission said the Maharashtra State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission's order directing Dr R R Singh to pay the man's widow, Pratibha Gamre, Rs 7 lakh was just. The National Commission said the doctor should not have admitted Pandurang Gamre as his condition was alarming and should have advised him to approach a good hospital. "It is difficult to fathom as to how and why drugs like Betnesol, Decadron & Neurobion were prescribed without consulting any allopathic doctor. It is difficult to understand how the petitioner (Dr Singh) switched over to allopathy without any knowledge of the same. A doctor is not supposed to play with the lives of people for his personal gain," the commission said.
Share|

thejakartapost.com on May 15, 2012 reported that hospital patient Sandy Chong claims she was flung almost 2 meters after a food trolley crashed into her on a ward. The finance manager was talking to a doctor when she was struck on her right side and thrown into another part of the room, court documents say. She suffered multiple fractures and is now suing Tan Tock Seng Hospital for alleged negligence. Chong, who was 44 at the time of the collision in 2009, claims it caused her severe pain, affected her career and also meant she had to hire a maid. But the hospital argues that she was partly to blame for failing to keep a proper lookout. It also says that her injuries were aggravated by her existing ailments. The case is being heard at the High Court, where payouts for damages start at S$250,000 (US$198,791).
Share|

indianexpress.com on May 07, 2012 reported that the CBI has arrested former Lucknow chief medical officer A K Shukla in connection with the October 2010 murder of his predecessor, Vinod K Arya. Shukla was arrested here late Sunday night on charges of conspiring to kill Arya, a CBI spokesperson said. According to the CBI, Shukla feared being exposed over misappropriation of funds in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). He may also be charged in the killing of another chief medical officer, B P Singh. Shukla had been arrested by the CBI last year in connection with the NRHM scam but granted bail by the Allahabad High Court.
Share|

timesofindia.com on May 08, 2012 reported that Gujarat State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered a doctor to pay to Rs. 5,80,000 to the husband of his patient for medical negligence. The patient died during an abortion. What helped the husband win the case was his promptness in taking wise decisions. Instead of sitting and lamenting in vain, Arbind Patel took his wife's body for a post mortem when his 24-year-old wife Bindu died in a hospital in 2001. Later, when Patel approached the consumer court with compensation plea, his claim was supported by the autopsy report.
Share|
