channelnewsasia.com on May 17, 2012 reported that a doctor has been censured and fined for professional misconduct. A Disciplinary Committee Inquiry found Dr Chai Chwan, 47, guilty of 31 charges of misconduct. The Singapore Medical Council said on Thursday that the Inquiry proceedings arose out of two complaints by the Ministry of Health. One was on August 10, 2007 about Dr Chai's practice at Little Cross Family Clinic in Tampines. The other was on April 30, 2008 about his practice at My Little Family Clinic in Jalan Bukit Merah. The SMC said Dr Chai faced a total of 71 charges. The first group of charges related to the way he managed patients who had been prescribed Subutex. He faced a total of 49 charges - 27 were for patients seen at Little Cross Family Clinic and 22 for patients seen at My Little Family Clinic. Another set of charges revolved around financial schemes.
Share|

waff.com on May 17, 2012 reported that a doctor facing charges appeared before a federal judge Wednesday afternoon for an arraignment hearing. Dr. Diana McCutcheon is charged with fraud. She appeared in federal court with her attorney, Robert Tuten. McCutcheon pleaded not guilty to the 96-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court. She's accused of billing Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare for non-reimbursable cosmetic skin treatments totaling $1.3-million. "Dr. McCutcheon is convinced this is a paperwork mix up. It is easy to mix up numbers and transpose a number on a code. It could practically invalidate the entire bill. She believes that is what's happened here. She is certainly willing to repay any money she was wrongfully paid and she does not deserve," said Tuten.
Share|

pennlive.com on May 15, 2012 reported that a federal judge will have to decide whether it is better for society to have Dr. William J. Zinnanti, a prolific medical researcher, in the hospital laboratory or behind bars. A prison term is on the table for Zinnanti, a former Hershey resident and a graduate of the Penn State College of Medicine, after a criminal charge was filed against him Monday in U.S. Middle District Court in Harrisburg. The charge stems from allegations that a now-defunct Hershey-based business Zinnanti owned, Zinnanti Surgical Design LLC, supplied surgical devices that federal investigators contend were not sterile. Zinnanti, 42, now a pediatric neurology fellow at the Stanford University School of Medicine in California, has a tentative deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to a charge of introducing adulterated medical devices into interstate commerce. The count carries a penalty of up to 3 years in federal prison, plus a year of probation and $250,000 in fines.
Share|

wkyt.com on May 15, 2012 reported that a Manchester doctor accused of producing child pornography pleaded not guilty Tuesday in federal court in Lexington. Dr. Kishore Kumar Jadhav is facing federal charges that he employed and videotaped nude teenage girls. New details were released about the alleged crime, and we want to warn you that some information in this story is graphic and viewer discretion is advised. The details are startling, some so graphic that we chose to leave out portions of the sworn statement by an FBI agent. The ten page statement centers around Dr. Kishore Jadhav who worked in Manchester at a private family practice for years, but now he is accused of employing teenage girls and producing child pornography. "Everybody that I knew that went and saw him, nobody had anything bad to say about him. It's just a big shock to everybody around here," said James Jeffrey. He never saw Dr. Jadhav, but was getting ready to take his daughter there. "I have an eleven year old daughter, and this is scary to think a person of trust like that. Where do you turn?" said Jeffrey. The investigation started in March with a complaint to Kentucky State Police that Dr. Jadhav paid two teenage girls to take a survey.
Share|

iol.co.za on May 15, 2012 reported that a Durban anaesthetist, who was charged with unprofessional conduct for failing to monitor a patient who subsequently died, has been fined R50 000 and immediately suspended from practice for an effective three months. Leon Rheeder pleaded guilty before a conduct committee of the Health Professions Council of SA on Monday. The committee suspended him from practice for one year, with three months of it effective immediately. The remaining nine months was wholly suspended for a period of five years, provided Rheeder was not found guilty of a similar offence in that time. Rheeder was expected to appeal against the sentence. He had been monitoring 70-year-old patient Ian Fordyce during a cataract extraction operation at Crompton Hospital in Pretoria in February 2010. But he left the theatre to relieve himself and Fordyce had an adverse reaction to the drug Ultiva and slipped into a coma.
Share|

Robert Major Jones, 56, of Orangeburg is charged with assault and battery in the second degree.
nbcsandiego.com on May 15, 2012 reported that the California Medical Board just released its decision regarding the punishment for the San Diego Chargers team doctor. Dr. David Chao was accused of perjury and illegal drug use. He pleaded guilty plea to a DUI charge after being convicted in 2007, causing the medical board to challenge his license last year. In July of last year, federal agents searched Chao's office, after learning he had allegedly written more than 100 drug prescriptions for himself, over the past two years. The medical board leveled more accusations against the team's doctor, claiming he misused drugs or alcohol and committed perjury on a professional application form.
Share|

vanguardngr.com on May 15, 2012 reported that the Optometrist and Dispensary Registration Board of Nigeria has shut down a fake eye clinic located at Shop 35, University of Lagos Main shopping complex, Lagos. Investigations reveal that the operator had on its sign board the inscription “Dudu Ventures”. Luck ran out of the owner, Mr. Dudu Yemi Oladipupo, a school certificate holder, when an enforcement unit of the Board stormed his shop following a tip off. By the entrance of the shop, members of the public were given the impression that the shop was for shoes, clothes and hair accessories amongst others. But in reality, the owner who has no formal training on eye related issues was actually carrying out eye tests and treating other eye diseases.
Share|
