inewsgy.com on April 24, 2012 reported that a Doctor who was last year arrested for molesting a 13-year old girl in West Berbice, was on Monday arrested for selling pharmaceuticals without a license, a police source confirmed. ?Well-placed police source told Inews Guyana that embattled Dr Vishwamintra Persaud was “caught red-handed” by investigators issuing pharmaceuticals at his business and when asked to produce his license he was unable to. He was since arrested and is in police custody.

Guyana: Doctor, wife held on charges of theft

The Grants’ of Dairy Meadow, St. James are both facing 18 counts of theft sometime between November8, 2008 and January 2010.

Brazil: Nurse faces charges in child porn case

windsorstar.com on April 05, 2012 reported that a 53-year-old Belgian male nurse was charged with possession of millions of child sex images and sexually abusing 23 minors in Belgium, Brazil and Poland, prosecutors said Wednesday. The man, identified as Marc S., is suspected of abusing 13 children in Brazil, five in Poland and five in Belgium, said a spokesman for the Brussels prosecutor's office. The suspect was arrested in the northern Brazilian city of Belem in 2006, but he fled the country five days later when he was released pending a trial, according to the Flemish daily De Morgen.

Jamaica: Doctor charged for conducting teenaged girl’s abortion

rjrnewsonline.com on April 01, 2012 reported that popular medical practitioner, Dr. Lloyd Cole was on Saturday evening charged by investigators assigned to the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA). Dr. Cole was arrested on the weekend following investigations into allegations that the medical practitioner conducted an abortion on a teenaged girl. CISOCA Head Superintendent Gladys’ Brown-Campbell outlined the circumstances that led to Dr. Cole’s arrest and charge. Superintendent Brown-Campbell says the investigation is at a delicate stage and declined to provide details.

On Friday, at Marin’s funeral service, family members and friends called on Health Minister Therese Baptiste-Cornelis to launch a full-scale probe, since they claimed negligence, misdiagnosis and lack of care led to the man’s death.

sify.com on January 24, 2011 reported that a leading doctor, who helped football legend Pele to father twins in his 50s, is on run after being convicted of sexually assaulting or raping 39 of his female patients at his clinic in Sao Paulo, Brazil, between 1995 and 2007. Roger Abdelmassih, 67, was sentenced to 278 years in prison in November last year after he was found guilty, but was allowed to remain free pending the result of an appeal and has now disappeared from his home, The Telegraph reports. The doctor is famous across Brazil after helping a number of high-profile Brazilians to have children through fertility treatment, most notably in 1996, when Pele became a father again at the age of 55.

Trinidad and Tobago: Doctor’s refusal to attend court lands him in trouble

trinidadexpress.com on January 19, 2011 reported that High Court Judge Carla Brown-Antoine yesterday issued an arrest warrant for a pathologist who refused to attend court to give evidence. Brown-Antoine was told by State attorney Randall Hector that the doctor’s secretary, Janet Antoine, informed him the doctor was teaching at Mt Hope and she was not willing to give the State attorney a cell contact to reach the doctor, who was issued with two subpoenas in less than a week. Hector added when he asked for the class Dr Wayne Mohammed was teaching at Mt Hope, the secretary questioned if her boss would be arrested in the classroom, to which Brown-Antoine shouted, “Yes!”.

He was among several people arrested between Friday and Saturday by officers who were conducting roadblock exercises along the Beetham Highway. The possession for trafficking charge came as Dr Nilesh Persad was found with the drugs within 500 metres of a school in the area.

Brazil: Specialist Doctor sentenced to 278 years in prison

ABC News on November 23, 2010 reported that A Brazilian reproductive medicine specialist has been sentenced to 278 years in prison for sexually abusing 39 of his patients, local media reported. Roger Abdelmassih, a well-known Sao Paulo fertility doctor, was accused of 56 cases of sexual abuse of patients in his private clinic. He was convicted of abusing patients both during exams and sometimes when they were in recovery rooms.

The 53-year-old accused, Dolphy Gilpin, who previously admitted to the court that he was not licensed by the Medical Council of Jamaica, is charged with practicing medicine without a license.

Belize: Doctors plead not guilty to disorderly conduct
