pennlive.com on May 15, 2012 reported that a federal judge will have to decide whether it is better for society to have Dr. William J. Zinnanti, a prolific medical researcher, in the hospital laboratory or behind bars. A prison term is on the table for Zinnanti, a former Hershey resident and a graduate of the Penn State College of Medicine, after a criminal charge was filed against him Monday in U.S. Middle District Court in Harrisburg. The charge stems from allegations that a now-defunct Hershey-based business Zinnanti owned, Zinnanti Surgical Design LLC, supplied surgical devices that federal investigators contend were not sterile. Zinnanti, 42, now a pediatric neurology fellow at the Stanford University School of Medicine in California, has a tentative deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to a charge of introducing adulterated medical devices into interstate commerce. The count carries a penalty of up to 3 years in federal prison, plus a year of probation and $250,000 in fines.

thetranscript.com on May 14, 2012 reported that a local clinic that specializes in memory loss treatment is being sued by a former employee alleging unfair treatment and a hostile work environment. The complaint was filed in Bennington Superior Court Civil Division on April 6 by attorney Brian Sawyer, of Manchester, on behalf of Krista Galipeau, of Bennington, against Dr. Paul Solomon and Clinical Neuroscience Research Associates Inc., otherwise known as The Memory Clinic. According to the complaint, Galipeau worked at the clinic from November 2007 to Sept. 8, 2010, as an office manager and patient coordinator. The complaint alleges that Solomon would show favoritism and make advances toward certain female employees, while other employees, such as Galipeau, were treated poorly. Galipeau alleges that in the summer of 2010, unfair treatment toward her increased, and that she complained to Cynthia Murphy, the Memory Clinic's administrative director. This did not affect Solomon's alleged conduct, the complaint alleges, and on Sept. 8 of that year, Galipeau was informed she was being laid off for financial reasons.

Dr. Diana McCutcheon is charged with fraud. She appeared in federal court with her attorney, Robert Tuten. McCutcheon pleaded not guilty to the 96-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court. She's accused of billing Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicare for non-reimbursable cosmetic skin treatments totaling $1.3-million. "Dr. McCutcheon is convinced this is a paperwork mix up. It is easy to mix up numbers and transpose a number on a code. It could practically invalidate the entire bill. She believes that is what's happened here.
tennessean.com on May 16, 2012 reported that the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners has revoked the license of Dr. Allen R. Walker Jr. of Cottontown after he was charged with drug violations in Sumner County. The action by the licensing board follows Walker’s arrests in February on state drug charges and in March on federal offenses. Walker, who was already under a monitoring agreement because of a chemical dependency, allegedly wrote prescriptions for his use in the names of his children and other family members, according to the order. An evaluation determined that Walker was not safe to practice medicine.

The commission said the Maharashtra State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission's order directing Dr R R Singh to pay the man's widow, Pratibha Gamre, Rs 7 lakh was just. The National Commission said the doctor should not have admitted Pandurang Gamre as his condition was alarming and should have advised him to approach a good hospital. "It is difficult to fathom as to how and why drugs like Betnesol, Decadron & Neurobion were prescribed without consulting any allopathic doctor. It is difficult to understand how the petitioner (Dr Singh) switched over to allopathy without any knowledge of the same. Dr Oliver Sascha Schindler will stand in front of a General Medical Council (GMC) panel in Manchester for a fitness to practise hearing on May 31. The panel will inquire into a host of allegations that Dr Schindler did not provide good clinical care to a patient.
iol.co.za on May 15, 2012 reported that a Durban anaesthetist, who was charged with unprofessional conduct for failing to monitor a patient who subsequently died, has been fined R50 000 and immediately suspended from practice for an effective three months. Leon Rheeder pleaded guilty before a conduct committee of the Health Professions Council of SA on Monday. The committee suspended him from practice for one year, with three months of it effective immediately. The remaining nine months was wholly suspended for a period of five years, provided Rheeder was not found guilty of a similar offence in that time. Rheeder was expected to appeal against the sentence. He had been monitoring 70-year-old patient Ian Fordyce during a cataract extraction operation at Crompton Hospital in Pretoria in February 2010. But he left the theatre to relieve himself and Fordyce had an adverse reaction to the drug Ultiva and slipped into a coma.

wkyt.com on May 15, 2012 reported that a Manchester doctor accused of producing child pornography pleaded not guilty Tuesday in federal court in Lexington. Dr. Kishore Kumar Jadhav is facing federal charges that he employed and videotaped nude teenage girls. New details were released about the alleged crime, and we want to warn you that some information in this story is graphic and viewer discretion is advised. The details are startling, some so graphic that we chose to leave out portions of the sworn statement by an FBI agent. The ten page statement centers around Dr. Kishore Jadhav who worked in Manchester at a private family practice for years, but now he is accused of employing teenage girls and producing child pornography. "Everybody that I knew that went and saw him, nobody had anything bad to say about him. It's just a big shock to everybody around here," said James Jeffrey. He never saw Dr. Jadhav, but was getting ready to take his daughter there. "I have an eleven year old daughter, and this is scary to think a person of trust like that. Where do you turn?" said Jeffrey. The investigation started in March with a complaint to Kentucky State Police that Dr. Jadhav paid two teenage girls to take a survey.
