USA: Pain specialist’s license revoked by state

courant.com on July 11, 2011 reported that State medical regulators have revoked the license of Dr. Ven C. Hsu of West Hartford, a pain specialist who is facing a manslaughter charge in the overdose death of a patient. But it was another case of negligence that moved the state Medical Examining Board to revoke the 68-year-old Hsu’s license to practice. The board, ruling late last month, found that Hsu prescribed stimulants and other medications to himself and his wife on numerous occasions from 2008 to 2010 under his son’s name; that he never maintained malpractice insurance as required by state law; and he covered the lack of insurance by filling out fake renewal cards. The board found Hsu was a “clear and immediate danger to the public’s health and safety” – but his troubles are far from over.
